Asus just released an SDK for developers for the Eee PC which means that 3rd party developers will now be able to develop applications for the Linux software. For the developers out there, the SDK is a 1.2GB DVD Image and must be installed from a DVD drive. It is a bootable copy of Xandros Linux.
There's also a PDF handbook which shows you how to develop software for the Eee PC. The Asus Eee PC is a huge hit so there should be a good amount of developers who will work on it. We can't wait to see what the first applications are for the Eee PC. Maybe we'll find some decent games on it.
The Asus Eee is raising so much attention that A-Data has come out and designed products especially for the Asus Eee PC. One o fthese products is a USB flash drive as well as a SDHC memory card that is especially designed fro the Asus Eee PC. It's mainly exterior as they intended to make accessories match the white Asus Eee PCs.
A nice plus for the A-Data devices is that they carry a life time warranty. The details on pricing hasn't come out yet, but should be very competitive knowing A-Data. It looks like A-Data knows the Asus Eee customers are very design conscious. We'll see if they are right.
Ever since Asus launched the Eee PC, its competitors have been scrambling to get something out to compete with it. Since Asus is traditionally a motherboard manufacturer, it is now in the ultra-portable sub-$1,000 market. Consequently, its competitors include motherboard firms, computer makers, and other firms who are just jumping in for their share.
The new competitors include: Elonex One (GeCube Genie), Packard Bell EasyNote XS, MSI Wind, Dell Vostro, and the OLPC XO-1. They are various levels above and below the Eee PC in terms of performance and price. Overall, I don't see any of them unseating the Eee PC anytime soon because of Asus first mover advantage and Asus-quality which will keep all of them behind the Eee PC.
Asus has predicted that its Windows based Eee PC will outsell its Linux based Eee PC. Specifically, Asus is predicting that the Windows version will take more than 60% of the market share. Two versions of Windows based Eee PCs will be sold, both of which will have beefier specs than the Linux based one. Since the hardware will be different its hard to say that people will want the Windows one because its Windows and not due to the better hardware.
Personally, I think the Eee PC running Linux was fine for its purposes. But it seems that Asus is looking to increase the hardware on the Eee PC so that soon they will be in the regular ultra-portable laptop market, for which they will have to embrace Windows. Though they should probably offer all their hardware models with the option of Windows and Linux.
It's been awhile since the last Where to Buy Eee PC Report, so let's see how the prices are this week. The Asus Eee PC is still selling like nothing else and there is even more buzz around the Asus Eee PC thanks to a consumer electronics show that unveiled the new Asus Eee PC that will be coming out in the future.
I'm hoping to see some price decreases and better stock level. The Asus Eee PC 8G has been out of stock for awhile, but it is finally coming back sparingly. So you better buy Eee PC 8G if you can catch one!
Now on to the actual report...
Buy Asus Eee PC 8g

eBay - 600-640
Buy.com - Sold Out (Pre-order)
You'd need some kind of miracle to buy Eee PC 8g. Amazon has it for 542.99 but is posting some 3 week shipping time. The price has actually gone up on eBay which really shows it still hasn't peaked in demand vs supply.

eBay - 340-355

Amazon - 399 to 408

The 4g has been perfectly consistent with the previous weeks. There may not be any plans to drop the prices anytime soon. Maybe when we get closer to the brand new Asus Eee PC, then we'll see something significant. eBay still seems the best place to go.
Buy Eee PC 2G
Amazon - 304.99 for all colors except for Lush Green at 309.99
Buy.com - 299.99 to 315
eBay - 295 - 325
Ok, so it turned out to be a pretty much the same from previous weeks except for eBay. I'm not surprised since they have no problem selling the Asus Eee PC. It will be interesting to see when we are able to buy Eee PC with a 9 inch screen. Prices will surely drop then.
Asus has edged into the lower end of the ultraportable notebook market. They came in from left field with their original Eee PC, with the form factor, price, and stability of Linux they took the market by storm. Now they are releasing their new Eee PC and it will now become a direct competitor in the general notebook market.
Asus has been making WhiteBooks for awhile now, however the Eee PC was its first notebook intended for the mainstream market. The WhiteBook is a barebones laptop that does not come with a CPU, hard drive, optical drive, or RAM. Those components are purchsed and put in by the user. Obviously it was only meant for the computer enthusiasts who are interested in such things. But the Eee PC is here to stay and is really taking the market by storm.
At CeBit 08 Asus announced the successor to the wildly successful Eee PC. It has a faster CPU, larger screen (9 inches), double the RAM memory, an increase in hard drive space (12GB), and it retains the biggest selling point of the Eee PC: a small footprint. It will also be available in a variety of colors. There is no word on when it will be available to purchase.
I think Asus is looking around at its competitors, struggling to catch up with Asus by making their own Eee PC clones. Asus is not sitting on its laurels, they realize they have hit a lucrative and important niche that was left unfulfilled and they are doing their best to really deliver. I have two models of the Eee PC, and unlike most first generation machines, both work flawlessly. Of course, if you have been a fan of Asus motherboards this comes as no surprise, because in that field they are one of the best players in the market.
So you've decided to buy Eee PC, but you're wondering which one of them is the best Eee PC buy. It can be quite daunting because there are actually 4 models to choose from and then you have to pick the right color as well. This article will explain to you the choices you have and which one is the best Eee PC buy for you.
The first and cheapest model is the Asus Eee PC 2g and will be the best Eee PC buy for most people. It comes with only 2gb of hard drive space so don't plan on installing many extra programs. Most people won't be doing this anyway, so it is plenty for most people. This model also comes in the most colors from blue to pink. If you're a regular pc user and love colors then this is the best Eee PC buy for you.
The next step is best for people who are comfortable with computers. This model is the 4G model and it comes in two kinds. One comes with a webcam and a pearly white instead of plain white. The other doesn't include a webcam. There is only a 50 dollar difference between the two. This will be the best for those who want to run Windows XP. This is the best Eee PC buy for most power users and those who want to run Windows XP.
The final model is really for those who want to get the most out of the Eee PC. The 8g model comes with 8gb of hard drive space which means you can install many extra applications and even run Windows XP smoothly. This is great for power users as well as Windows XP users.
So there you have it. It's not that difficult to find the best Eee PC buy for you, but knowing it will save you a lot of time and hassle. I hope you have a great time with your Asus Eee PC.

The 2G version has also been selling like hotcakes, but not all colors are as popular as others. Pink seems to be a great choice, but it also means you won't be able to buy Asus Eee PC in pink easily.
Overall, the Asus Eee PC is so popular that you really don't know what will happen day to day. If you find the one you want, be swift and buy Asus Eee PC before it runs out of stock. Have fun and enjoy your new Asus Eee PC!
For those of you who have already bought or plan to buy Asus Eee PC, it is a good idea to do an update on the operating system because the version of Xandros Linux that is being shipped currently has a security hole that needs to be patched. If you are behind a firewall or proxy it is probably not that big of a deal however it is a good idea to keep your software patched.
To do the update all you need to do is go into settings and Add/Remove Programs, it will automatically check for updates (assuming you are connected to the internet) and it will let you know which software has an update available, update the ones that you need, and leave the rest. For BIOS updates, you will usually not need to do any updates, unless of course you plan on hacking and using your Eee PC for some other reason.
