There are rumors already circulating about the next generation of Eee PCs. The second generation is due to be released on May 12th in America. The second generation will have an 8.9-inch screen and come in both Linux and Windows versions. The generation after that is what the rumors are about.
There are two big rumors. One is that the next generation will come to be offered in 10 inch model. Currently the Eee PC is in a 7 inch configuration. This will mean that the Eee PC will start competing against some of the ultraportable high end notebooks by Sony, Dell, and Lenovo. The second rumor is that by June the Eee PC will be out with the Intel Atom CPU at its core. This will mean better battery life and more power. Can't wait to see if these rumors come to be true...

Asus has announced the 8.9 inch next generation Eee PC. It is going to ship on May 12th. However, if you really cannot wait that long to get your hands on one, there is always eBay. Yes, that is right, the Eee PC 900 is now available on eBay and if you must have it right now you can order it. Most of the sellers are based on Hong Kong or Taiwan and they ship internationally. More final details have emerged. For one the RAM size has ben confirmed as being 1GB. This is an upgrade from the previous 512MB. The overall weight is less than 1KG still. The CPU is not an ATOM, as there was much speculation about. The battery life is listed at 2.5 hours, however preliminary tests show it lasting about 2 hour. But it has a brightness display that can be reduced so that you can increase the duration before you have to plug back in. We have gotten the final details for the Asus Eee PC 900. It will be released May 12th and it will cost $549. It will have the previously touted, 8.9-inch LCD display with 1024x600 resolution. It will also have a 1.3 megapixel camera integrated right above the screen. There will be two options of configuration. One will have a 12GB SSD with Windows OS and the other will have a 20GB SSD with Linux. There are rumors aswirl that are whispering that the Eee PC 900 will be released in May instead of June. This is great news for subnotebook enthusiasts because with an early release, before the summer, many people will be able to pick them up for back to school shopping. Everyone is starting to get into the subnotebook market so it may be a great thing for Asus to do an early release, the last release was almost half a year ago, its a good idea to get another incarnation out. Though the screen is rather small, a lot of people have felt that a TV tuner would be the perfect addition to the already great Asus Eee PC. Well, the guys at Asus have been hard at work and they have updated the Linux drivers for the My Cinema U3100 Mini DVB-T and DMB-TH products. Both of these are USB TV tuners. All you have to do is plug them in and you can watch your shows on the Eee PC. Allegedly the soon to be released Asus Eee PC 900 will be fitted with a touch screen and built in GPS according to Digitimes. This seems to be quite a tall order because last time I checked the Eee PC is an ultra portable low cost PC, not a Sony or something. Asus Germany has made is clear that the Eee PC 900 will be delivered exactly as it was at CeBIT 2008 with no new additions planned. Well it seems the large and unstoppable group on the Internet that kept on petitioning and lobbying Microsoft to not stop selling Windows XP this summer has finally gotten their wish. There have been demonstrations and massive petitions that hundreds of thousands have signed online asking Microsoft to keep on selling Windows XP. |
